Choking has been identified as one of the leading causes of preventable death in people with learning disability. John, a service user with a learning disability, worked in partnership with Speech and Language therapy and other interested professionals to develop a DVD, activities, posters and advice leaflets.

He hopes, by sharing his story, to improve service user experience and help other people reduce their risk of choking. “before I worked with speech and language therapy I didn’t know choking was so serious. This is me telling my story and how I feel being through it (choking), even if I help one person it will be fantastic”.

This app will help empower people to increase their knowledge of choking, safe food choices, safe eating behaviors, safe eating environments, first aid, good oral care, Personal Place Mats and how to support communication and choice making.
